Putting on the glitz

Organisers of a fundraising charity event in Essex have thanked magician Tony Steward for helping them to raise a glittering £34,000 which will be used to make dreams come true for young people with life-limiting conditions.

Tony, a long-time supporter of The Dream Factory, entertained guests at the charity’s major fundraising event of the year – the ‘Putting on the Glitz’ ball at the Prince Regent Hotel in Woodford Bridge, Chigwell.

A host of celebrities including EastEnders stars Sid Owen and Patsy Palmer were among the guests, together with patrons Vicky Michelle, star of the BBC comedy ‘Allo ‘Allo!, former boxing champion Colin McMillan, local MP Iain Duncan Smith, and also The Bill actor Gary Lucy, actor and comedian Terry Alderton, and The Voice finalist David Julien.

Organiser Avril Mills has thanked Tony for volunteering his services free of charge. She wrote: “On behalf of all the team at the Dream Factory, my sincere thanks for yet again entertaining and amazing our guests.”

Avril launched the charity four-and-a-half years ago following the death of her son Oliver to leukaemia and since then, 173 dream requests have been fulfilled.

Tony said: “The efforts of the Dream Factory team are tireless. They are always working on new dream requests so they always need more funds. It was a fantastic event and I’m privileged to have been able to lend my support.”

Gillingham wedding fair

Magician Tony Steward will be making his debut at Priestfield Stadium – home of Gillingham Football Club – on Sunday October 14, 2012.

On this occasion, Tony won’t be using his magical powers to boost the chances of the Gills in League Two. Instead, he’ll be meeting couples attending a wedding fair at the stadium which is a licensed wedding venue and Kent’s largest purpose-built conferencing and banqueting venue.
